The esteemed Guru Nanak (1469-1539) was the first of the 10 Sikh Gurus and is revered as the founder of Sikhism. Earlier this month, on Nov. 12, the world celebrated the Guru’s 550th birthday. Alooatta’s Light of Life 550 Signature Series of soya wax candles was created to honor Sikhism’s 550th year.
Candles are highly symbolic in Sikhism, as they represent a journey out of darkness. The eco-friendly aspect of the candles is also important, since Guru Nanak’s teachings emphasized that to respect the environment is respect the Creator.
The Light of Life 550 Signature Series features only natural ingredients. An exclusive blend of soya wax, organic mustard seed oil, and botanical essential oils goes in to the creation of Alooatta’s hand-poured candles. Each signature piece is biodegradable, 100% vegan, and guaranteed to burn cleanly so as to protect the air and the environment.
Candles in the Light of Life 550 Signature Series come in five soothing and gentle scents: natural, sandalwood, jasmine, lavender and rose. Each candle in the series burns for a specific duration to honor the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak. The larger of the candles burns for 550 minutes (nearly 10 hours) and the smaller for 5 hours and 50 minutes.
AlooAtta CEO Harbinder Singh Sewak also commissioned a giant soy wax candle, hand-poured by master candlemaker Madu Dhasanayaka, that has a burn time of 550 hours. The candle was presented as a gift to The Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib in Surrey, British Columbia, and was lit in a special ceremony on November 8, in advance of the Nagar Kirtan parade on November 9.
